What the crowd thinks happens in 2028.
Save your map as your forecast and it joins the average. A state turns solid when 70% of forecasters agree, light when 55% do, and stays a toss-up otherwise. Unscientific, and honest about it.

Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were the closest states of 2024, and six of them changed hands at least once since 2016.

2028 electoral map: questions and answers
How many electoral votes does a candidate need to win in 2028?
+
There are 538 electoral votes in total, so a candidate needs 270, a majority, to win the presidency. If no one reaches 270, the House of Representatives picks the president, with each state delegation casting one vote.
When is the 2028 presidential election?
+
Election Day is Tuesday, November 7, 2028. Electors meet in their states in December, and Congress counts the electoral votes in early January 2029. The new term begins on January 20, 2029.
How many electoral votes does each state have in 2028?
+
Each state gets one elector per member of Congress (House seats plus two senators), and Washington, D.C. gets three. The 2028 map uses the same counts as 2024, based on the 2020 census: California has 54, Texas 40, Florida 30, New York 28, Illinois and Pennsylvania 19 each. Every state page on this site lists its count.
What are the swing states for 2028?
+
The seven states decided by the closest margins in 2024 were Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Together they hold 93 electoral votes and are where most 2028 campaigning is expected.
How do I make my own electoral map?
+
Open the map maker and click a state to cycle it through Safe Democratic, Lean Democratic, Toss-up, Lean Republican and Safe Republican. The tally at the top updates live. You can start from the 2024 result, copy a share link, download a PNG, or sign in to publish your map to the wall.
Is the community forecast or straw poll a real poll?
+
No. Both are unscientific. They show what visitors to this site predict or prefer, and visitors are not a representative sample of American voters. Use them for fun and discussion, not as a prediction of the result.
What happens in Maine and Nebraska?
+
Maine and Nebraska give two electoral votes to the statewide winner and one to the winner of each congressional district, so they can split. This map shows them as whole states; their state pages explain the split.
