Who we are
ElectoralMap.org is an independent site run from Vietnam. We are the controller of the personal data described here. Contact: hello@electoralmap.org.
What we collect and why
- Account (Google sign-in): your name, email address and profile picture, to run your account and show your name on maps you publish. Basis: performing our terms with you.
- What you create: your flag (home state), your forecast map, maps you publish and likes. Basis: performing our terms with you.
- Straw-poll answer: who you would vote for, plus your flag state if you planted one. This can reveal a political opinion, so we only store it with your explicit consent (the tick box on the poll). You can withdraw consent at any time with “Delete my answer” on the poll page, and the answer is deleted.
- Technical data: IP address, used briefly for rate limiting and to protect the site. Basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
What is public
Maps you publish to the wall show your name and avatar. Your home state, forecast and straw-poll answer are never shown individually; they only appear inside totals.
Sensitive information
Your straw-poll answer may reveal a political opinion. We use it only to compute aggregate totals. We never sell or share it, never send it to analytics or advertising services, and never use it for advertising.
Cookies and analytics
em_session(30 days) keeps you signed in;em_oauth(10 minutes) protects Google sign-in. Both are strictly necessary.em_region(30 days) records only whether you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, so we know to ask before using analytics. Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage.- Google Analytics (
_ga,_ga_*, up to 2 years) counts page views. It receives your IP address, browser and device type and the pages you visit. We never send it your name, email, maps, forecast or poll answer, and Google signals and ad personalization are turned off. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland it only runs after you click “Accept”. Elsewhere it runs unless you opt out. A Global Privacy Control signal from your browser always turns it off. Change your choice any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. Advertising
The site does not show ads at the moment. If we add ads, we will update this page first and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are used.
Who processes your data
Google (sign-in and Analytics) and our hosting provider. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Your data may be processed outside your country, including in Vietnam, where the site is run, and in the United States by Google. Where required, we rely on the transfer safeguards Google offers, such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
Account data, maps, forecast and poll answer: until you delete them or your account. Rate-limit counters (user ID or IP address): cleared regularly once they expire, and at once when you delete your account.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, Vietnam's Personal Data Protection Law or US state privacy laws), you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, object to or restrict its use, and withdraw consent at any time. Email us and we will reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Deleting your data
Use “Delete my account and data” on your account page. Your account, flag, forecast, maps, likes and poll answer are removed immediately.
